Click here to email meI just discovered that my Great, Great Grandmother was Frances Wells, whose brother, Joseph Wells was the father of none other than Herbert George Wells. Perhaps best know as H.G.Wells the famous author and free thinker. This apparently makes him my 1st Cousin 3 times removed. How cool is that! See the link here.
The 1901 census lists what I believe to be my great grandfather Harry Hensby. He worked as head coachman for Gilbey's (Sir Walter Gilbey) as did my grandfather and the address given is a few yards away from Gilbey's distillery in London, St.Pancras. My grandfather's brother Walter, has a birth record listing his father as Henry Edward Hensby and mother Emma Lord and he apparently remembered hearing the lions of London Zoo at night when very small, when the family were staying in a flat above the Gilbey Stables. This, I believe, strongly supports the entry in the 1901 census of Harry Hensby at Park Village West Mews, St.Pancras, just opposite Regent's Park.
This Harry (Henry) in 1901 listed his birth place as Heacham in Norfolk.
There is the following entry in the 1881 census which ties up with dates and names etc., and seems to form the next generation in my tree but still more digging to do.
