Annie Hensby - Auckland, New Zealand

I'm Annie Margaret Hensby, born in Croydon, South London on 21.5.62. My Mum, Sheila and brother Richard Valentine Hensby (14.2.60) arrived in Auckland, New Zealand in August 1969. My father, John Hensby remarried and still lives in England with his wife Val and their daughter Sarah. I have two sons, Samuel Alexander Hensby (30.5.91) and Benjamin Aaron Walker - who has chosen his dad's name (16.2.89).

I ran a drama school for many years, taught at risk youth, advised for the Ministry of Education on behavioural problems and special needs students and am now a primary school teacher. My eldest son, Ben, is very academic like his uncle and is in an accelerant stream at school and plays underwater hockey Nationally. He plans to be a psychiatrist. Sam was born at 27 weeks early and now has cerebral palsy with left hemiplegia and although verbally very bright indeed, struggles with reading and writing. He adores going to "Riding for Disabled"! He plans to be a marine biologist or a vet.

My Dad believes all our Hensbys originated from the Eastern side, Norfolk, Suffolk and Norwich. He said that names ending in "nsby" and "msby" are of Nordic origin and that when the Hemsby Vikings came to the coast they named Brimsby and Hemsby-on-sea.
